Don't Overthink

The Brand

The "Don't Overthink" collection was created as a wearable mantra to help ease the burden that anxiety can bring to everyday life.

In late 2019, Shegogg Cook went through a tough time dealing with anxiety and depression after losing sight in both eyes over the course of 5 months. During those 5 months, I couldn't look at light or screens for extended periods of time. This kept me home and out of work for the entire duration. Not being able to work, network, socialize, and otherwise live a normal life, I needed a way to cope with the stresses of being unproductive and away from the world.

With the constant burden of anxiety looming daily, I turned to comedy to break the monotony of each day. Laughter is said to be the best medicine, and this was true in this case.

Once I was able to return to work and "normal" everyday life, anxiety stuck with me. I felt overwhelmed in most social settings and started to talk myself out of going to different places. Anxiety was winning.

I decided to tell myself one phrase every morning to keep from falling into the same routine. That phrase was "Don't Overthink". This helped, but it wasn't enough to ease the burden completely.

Fast forward to 2020, I decided to put that exact phrase on a T-Shirt, and later, a hoodie. I knew that by wearing these words on my clothing, whenever I found myself looking down due to anxiety, I would see those words and remind myself not to overthink.

I wore the hoodie for a while and people would notice it and ask, "Don't think? what does that mean?" or "What are you not thinking about?". I would correct them and say, "It's Don't Overthink." They all had the same surprised, yet intrigued reaction. These interactions became frequent, which helped ease the anxiety I would feel in social environments. Some of these conversations also led to one question: "I want one, where can I get it?"

It was never my intention to sell these shirts/hoodies. I have always been the type to do me, for me. However, after realizing that there are a lot of people who need this same phrase to help them through their days, I decided to start a brand. With this brand I hope to bring awareness to mental health issues and those who suffer from its effects. This is the mission of the Frames Clothing "Don't Overthink" brand.
